Mr. Gobardhan Chandra Pattanayak was an ardent dog lover and animal lover since his child hood and it was quite natural for him to opt for working with animals as a challenge in his career.
He served the Orissa Police with distinction since 1975 and retired as Deputy Supdt. of Police in 1995. During these twenty years of service he was instrumental in building up the Orissa Police Detective Dog Squad from scratch into one of the few outstanding squads of the country. His research on specific tracker dogs (i.e. hilly trackers and ozone trackers etc.) put the canine criminology in a new track. He was awarded the police officer’s inter-state award (after his retirement on April 2004).
